Maureen is so funny! So fearless~ Simon Cowell, America’s Got Talent
”People are not only gonna love you, they will imitate you, they will wanna see you...you have everything in the arsenal that a great comedian needs." - Howie Mandel, America’s Got Talent

Hey Maureen…

How did you get into comedy?
A gift from God.

Where did you grow up?
Lake Hiawatha, NJ, where there is no lake

Who are your parents?  Got siblings?
I am one of six immaculate conceptions. My mother is a blessed Irish immigrant and my father, Hughie, is a Bronx-born New York City garbageman.

Were you always funny?
Yes.

Is everyone in your family funny?
No

What advice did your mother give you growing up?
Bad advice. She told me to develop my brain.  She should have told me to dance with poles. She also told me, “Don’t make a show of yourself.” That’s what I do for a living.

What about your dad?
Hughie said I’d go far because I have moxie like Eydie Gorme.

I asked, “What’s moxie?” He said it’s like chutzpah, which clarified nothing.

“Who’s Edyie Gorme?” She’s a singer on Ed Sullivan.

“Who’s Ed Sullivan?” This could go on forever.

What did you do before comedy?
I was a broadcaster at Bloomberg TV & Radio providing commentary, interviewing celebrities and satirizing world news. Awards were won. Money was made. A dental plan was had.

When the format changed, the new program director said he wanted me to report on retirement stocks. I said I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.

That was 20 years ago. Since then I have performed around the world where I’ve met incredible, insane, brilliant, batty, smart, smug, wild and wonderful people. That, my friend, is priceless.

What’s new?
My comedy special, Don’t Make Me Hate You, has been released on Dry Bar Comedy. Check it out here:

What type of events do you do?

The Ladies take Issue.... on stage with these incredible South African comics.

Slated to guest co-host The View. Weeks before my big day, the executive producer gets fired. Oh, the pain!

cabguy.png

After 24 hours, I arrive in South Africa. Delirious, I am. Beautiful, smiling Kev says he’s there to take me to my hotel. I say, "I don't care if you're here to kill me, just get me out of here”

What a welcoming audience!

A rare photo of male comics listening to a female comic.

Hangin’ on a hill in Jo'burg with my comedy buds from Boston, England, So. Africa, Rome and France. Truly an international festival.

I am attracted to the strong silent type.

During Apartheid, Kedi was taken from his home and thrown in jail. He was never charged with a crime and missed the birth of his first son. He shared his profound and painful experiences as we toured Soweto. You can hear our conversation at patreon.com/MaureenLangan

Sisters Mary (92) and Josephine (90) shuffle through traffic on a busy road in Edinburgh while lugging groceries. I help their curled bodies up a hill and down the crooked stairs to their flat. “It’s bloody hell,” one says, “but we’re fine.”

I love abducting children on my travels. I found these two little ones at prayer services on a hill in Jo’burg.
